BLACK COFFEE’S EFFECT ON GOUT:
There are several reasons why coffee helps to protect from uric acid buildup. There are two main types of gout medications your doctor may prescribe for you: Xanthine Oxase Inhibitors (XOIs) and Uricosurics (URICOSURICs).
XOIs work by blocking the activity of XOIs. XOIs work by inhibiting the body’s metabolizing of purines. Purines are the source of uric acids. By inhibiting this enzyme, xOIs can help lower uric acid levels.
Uricosurics work by helping the kidneys get rid of uric acid in the body. Coffee isn’t a “uricosuric” but it works in a similar way.
Chlorogenic Acid
One study, chlorogenic acid, also known as methyl xanthine, found in coffee may help improve insulin sensitivity. As insulin levels decreased and insulin sensitivity increased, so did the elimination of sodium and urate.
